Handicraft Village and Craft Museum, located centrally at the heart of Kota Bahru cultural zone.
It's located within walking distance from Istana Balai Besar and Buluh Kubu Bazaar. Alternatively,
you can also access from Jalan Hilir Kota and Jalan Sultan.
Handicraft Village and Craft Museum, also known as 'Balai Getam Guri' in local
language, is a place to showcase local handicraft industry in Kelantan, and it's
supported by the state government. It's a fine craft museum, houses many Kelantanese
craftsmanship, including traditional embroidery, batik, silverware and matting.
Interestingly, curious visitor have the opportunity to witness and learn the process
of making those craft, where demonstration of traditional embroidery, songket weaving
and batik drawing are done skilfully by the artists. Souvenirs are available for sales
as well. Another worth visiting museum is the Jahar Palace (Istana Jahar), which was
once the royal residence, built back in 1855. It's a wooden palace, which displays
interesting wood carving and traditional handicraft.
After the Handicraft Village and Craft Museum, you can drop by Siti Khadijah Central Market,
famously known for its vast variety of fresh seafood and fresh vegetables. Apart from that,
many local fruits like longan, banana, papaya and durian can be found too. This is also a
good place to drop by for lunch as there is good variety of local eateries available,
including the famous nasi dagang of Kelantan.
To pull a night at Kota Bahru, there are many Kelantan hotels available. Alternatively,
there are also many budget guest inns.
Once you arrive at the airport/bus station/train station of Kota Bahru, the easiest way
to move about is by taxi and some short distance walk. Handicraft Village and Craft Museum
is located at the cultural zone, within short walking distance from Istana Balai Besar and
Buluh Kubu Bazaar.
